The coolest IPhone app ever by Cassius

March 9th, 2011 | M | Videos | No Comments »

Spot the filler……totally nothing to do with fashion, something to do with lips, a lot to do with stuff I’m into, everything to do with a party I went to at Christmas. I assumed that everyone I knew had seen this but surprisingly they haven’t so for those who haven’t this is possibly THE best iphone application I’ve ever seen – my cousin put me on to it, he has a blog too – he’s involved in Drifting, the motor sport, I’ll update this with his blog when I can actually get in touch with him.

Anyway who needs an egg timer, when you can have an OLE DB mouth. Download now and enjoy hours of endless fun for all the family. Tunes nae too bad neither.

Showstudio – Gareth Pugh debuts at Pitti Imagine

January 13th, 2011 | M | Art, Fashion, Videos | No Comments »

Picture 35

Gareth Pugh debuted at Pitti Imagine #79 with a fashion film created with Ruth Hobgen and projected onto the ceiling of a 14th Century church.

The collection was inspired by religious iconography and Florentine opulence. It reminds me of Baroque and Renaissance frescoed ceilings and sculpture in the churches of Italy. Everything from the perspective and writhing physical forms to the gold and cornflower blue colour palettes directly reference artworks of the 16th and 17th century. The inflated billows and folds of undulating fabric are regularly found in images of female saints and madonnas of this era. Even the lighting nods towards the technique of using strong contrast of light and dark(chiaro scuro) by artists like Caravaggio

Contemporary inspiration is apparent in sequences of images reminiscent of digital prints. Gold shines in rays like the light of god shining through clouds as was often seen in paintings of this era. Altogether a very clever and considered work of art.

Much like the frescoed ceilings I imagine this is best viewed in situ, watching the projected film from below. We can more than make do with it projected on our Macs.

A detail of perspective from the Sistine Ceiling by the Renaissance painter Michelangelo

St Theresa in Ecstasy by Baroque Scultpor Bernini.

The Taking of Christ by Carvaggio – one of my favorite paintings of all time.

I could go on about all of this at great length but I won’t.

Ok art wanky over. Back to sticking studs on things.

Sissy Bounce, Sissy Nobby, Nick Knight and SHOWstudio present Quack

Show Studio Quack Sissy Bounce

Finishing off Nick Knight’s Fashion Body Film series is a 40 second focus on the hips featuring Quack, a dancer from New Orleans and the sissy bounce. I watched this initially and thought – another gratuitous bootie shake but there’s something distinctly mesmermesing about this film that compells you to watch over and over again, ultimately winning you over(I’m won, I am totally) and elements of the dance remind me of Josephine Baker clips I’ve been watching recently. Filmed witha tongue in cheek approach the clip nods to the scrappy home videos on which we usually see bootie bounce.

Once the bounce releases you from it’s mesmerising hold, you notice that Quack is actually dressed head to toe in designer gear namely Burberry, Mark Fast, Alexander MxQueen and John Galliano for Dior. Shorts cut to infinity just how we’d do them ourselves, we’ve said it before but it’s all about the under-but. Fun to see high-end fashion POP.

Jodie Harsh’s Circus promo shot by Gabriel Gettman – FEAST!

CIRCUS by Gabriel Gettman

WARNING – these stunts are carried out by trained professionals with a team of janitors on hand, please do not try at home (we know, we spent weeks getting treacle and cream out of the studio floor last time we shot with Gabriel)

A few months ago we we helped out on promo for Jodie Harsh’s night Circus. Directed by our talented friend Gabriel Gettman(who shot the video for our label TWO WEEKS) and styled by the lovely  Alexis Knox, the video features personalities from the East London club scene and her good self, Jodie.

It was shot in the photography studio beside ours. Gabriel recruited us to keep things moving, ensure everyone made their call times for hair, make-up, photo and film shoots – basically just bossing everyone around, something we’re pretty good at. Unfortunately I lost my voice(completely) but I still managed to get the job done.

Christopher James(weknowwhatyoudidlastnight.com), who features in the video also did a shoot on the day, the results of which you can see above and below.

Circus genuinely is one of THE most flambouyant/avant garde/outrageous/fun nights in London at the moment and the video is the perfect taster – yum, yummmm!

In the spirit of doing shit……onedotzero

dj yoda

The lovely people at Margaret invited me to attend onedotzero- Adventures in Motion(audio-visual and cinematic festival) happening from 10-14 November. I’m a bit disgusted because I’m too busy to go to all the events over the weekend and there are so many good ones but I hit up DJ Yoda at BFI Max last night and despite deciding to take the bus from Hackney(bad call on my part), getting chucked off in the rain due to breakdown in the city somewhere, it didn’t disappoint. I’d seen Yoda in Dublin a few times but I hadn’t seen the live AV shows before and I was impressed, alright really impressed. I’d never been to BFI max before but it has the largest screen in Europe and yeah it’s HUGE. I went with my friend Cooney – he was wearing fingerless leather gloves – mental!

This was synchronised audio visual scratching of the highest degree – a melange of dubstep, DnB, old school hip-hop and an hyper image bombardment – ok may not have the right geek terminology right but I’m a fashion designer so gimme a break. It was also funny, cheeky and visually bantery – people were even dancing(imagine!!!)

Here’s sneak preview of everything you could see…..make up your own mind on what you want to.

onedotzero_adventures in motion 2010 preview from onedotzero on Vimeo.

The festival itself runs all weekend and there’s so much cool stuff going on. I missed a workshop with Itsnicethat due to work commitments and I didn’t get a chance to see the Cassette Playa installation – boo. Suggest you pay a visit if you’re up for some visual inspiration in LDN this weekend.

Cassette Playa – I CAN HAZ UR EVERYTHING

News from the stoodio – we’re moving! Yeahhhhh!

Unreal!!!!! – 3D mapping down the West End by the Dark Room

November 10th, 2010 | M | Videos | 2 Comments »

Still in the spirit of doing things I went out last night to watch our mates The Dark Room’s 3D projection onto a 4 story red brick building down the West End. I’ve had a little bit of a 3D mapping obsession ever since they introduced me to it – I just think it’s amazing. I’d never seen it before in action, only on Youtube but I came over all kid with the Christmas lights about the whole thing!

Picture 60

I had a chat with Bruce who does the animation and basically he works with a team who literally map out the building, then he creates the 3d animation which is projected onto the building with 4 super strong projectors which visually overlap to created one large image. Nothing really beats seeing it in situ but the Youtube comes close – watch and enjoy.

Despite the sarc we are acutally in LOVE with this video, the tune AND the styling’s immense – goddess head-dresses, those nails and the wings – we’ve  done feather wings for our SS11 collection(we acutally have nice one). We think wings are the new feathers, birds have been rockin them for agggges.
