Sandra Backlund S/S 2010…and a major apology

April 1st, 2010 | Kara | Fashion | No Comments »

I guess the fact that we were once told not to wear out Lady Gaga’s name on this blog makes it more likely that I will as I never do what I’m told (which could possibly be why I haven’t shown my virtual face here in centuries?). Anyhow, my Gaga reference of the hour is what I heard in my mind every time I thought of approaching my Bitching and Junkfood blogger account again: “You’ve been a very bad girl, Gaga.” – Beyonce.

BUT UNLIKE EVERY OTHER POST IN THE BLOGOSPHERE, I ASSURE YOU THIS POST ISN’T ABOUT THE “TELEPHONE” MUSIC VIDEO! Although it could easily be…if you wanted it to….BUT NO! (as if M wasn’t mad enough at me already). This post is about Sandra Backlund’s S/S 2010 collection! Yeah, so we’re well into F/W 2010 ish but I’ve been AWOL for so long (tackling my first full time magazine position, starting up an accessories business, gallivanting around Manila) that I’m still coming to terms with S/S 2010 gear so I’m all over her latest collection.

Don’t know what’s wrong with me but face paint seems to be my latest venture ever since seeing Avatar and listening to too much Empire of the Sun…So definitely squealed when I saw these red brows on the SRC783 blog.

RINGING TRUE

Like Mary-Kate Olsen, I intend to be anchored to the earth by all the bling I’ll be dripping in, even after hitting 90+. No one veiny, knobbly finger will be able to touch another due to the grandiose nature of the rocks they’ll be sporting. If I spend my meagre savings on anything at all, it’s usually obscenely large rings, so I was thrilled to see a post dedicated to knuckle garnishment on awesome blog Studded Hearts. Behold some of my favourites…

So pardon my seriously dark aesthete, but I can’t tell you how freaking excited I am for Emma Rea’s A/W 2010 collection ‘The Raven’; it just totally speaks to me with all its sartorially satanic splendour. Here’s a peak at what we Non-Aussies will be missing out on come March…

absolut

Ever since receiving the red sequined edition for my birthday in January ‘09 from a vodka-loving aunt, I’ve been hooked on this suited up vodka bottle trend (if not the alcohol itself…) and have decided to start a collection. Had to pick this up in Duty Free on my way back from a short stint in Trinidad last week…Absolut Rock, whose tagline should be ‘as if the studded trend hadn’t already reached critical mass…’. But I couldn’t resist!

Monster Colour – A New Way To Do Hair… Again

VogueUK-nov09-CarmenKass-MarioTestino

So, M banned anymore hair posts for a couple weeks around here, but breaking the rules is one of my specialties (Sorry!). I’ve been thinking a great deal about hair recently, as I’m on the lookout for a standout-ish accessory to revamp myself with post break-up. Actually, I’m always thinking about my hair ever since I had to chop it all off and start afresh after my first hair treatment in the Middle East (migrating and finding new people to trust with various parts of your person is a bitch). When heading out for the evening, I’ve mostly been splitting my coiffuring experiments between the bird’s nest hair that M posted about and the faux shaved-and-side-swept Alice Dellal (with the help of copious gel). But ever since spotting Carmen Kass in November’s UK Vogue topped off with thick braids that look like they just barely survived Phagwah, I’ve been cuckoo for chunks of out of control colour.  My hairdresser is NOT going to be pleased.

Where the Wild Things Have Been

If you haven’t read it, you’ve probably all seen a tattered copy gracing the dusty shelves at your local library as a kid. And if you’ve never laid eyes on Maurice Sendak’s popular children’s book Where the Wild Things Are (and that’s weird, mind you), then there’s no doubt that by now you’re more than familiar with it this year because of all the movie’s surrounding hype.

So, without getting into all that fluffy introductory BS, I’m Kara; that blogger girl from over on the other side of the planet in that country that sounds like an extra in Aladdin (Abu Dhabi).
