Melbourne Fashion Week – Trend Report
April 7th, 2010 | Sharn - Brisbane and Melbourne | Fashion | 4 Comments »This week was all about Fashion week in Melbourne plus me sourcing fabrics, kill two birds with one stone I say, or three or four. Women are natural multi taskers so I managed to fit a whole lot of other shit in there as well as fashion week. So after a hard day of walking ALL OVER Melbourne sourcing fabric stores and agents by 3pm my feet were fucking killing me!!! I also managed to wear out my new sandals, DAM IT!!!!!
PIT STOP, OUTFIT CHANGE, ICE….COLD…..BEER….. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, just what the doctored ordered. Boy, was that a site I had my thigh, high chocolate, brown, suede boots on with shorts, ripped fishnets, a FABULOUS top and jewelery to the nines, hmmmm AWKWARD on public transport.
Ah tangents, tangents so back to the Melbourne fashion festival crowd whom I was there to pap.
When I first got there women and fashionistas everywhere , I was quite excited. But the closer I looked the more I was sorely wrong and quite dismayed let me tell you. Now, I just want to say Melbourne, I love you and I do not want to ever put shit on you, because your ACE but I am going to tell it how it is and it wasn’t good. I was searching, searching the crowd for fashionable women but alas, many women, not too many fashionable. It made me sad and started to make me kinda angry but I didn’t want to be like that. I am not nasty and I could feel a nasty coming on. I started to look at all the women’s faces and you know what, they ALL looked so happy, so GOD dam proud because they were dressed up to the nines, whatever nines they have in their mind and they felt good, they felt fucking great in fact and you know what , that was a wicked thing to see, good on them. I was now at peace again and papped away. I actually had a great few nights and found some wickedly, stylish women here.
Trends I saw were BLACK! You know what my bestie was recently here from London and made a comment on how much Australian’s love to wear black in Summer, I never thought about it, but we do, we really do. I have just been in Melbourne and Brisbane and have seen the 2011 summer fabric ranges and guess what black and dark colours, I don’t know when it happened but it did. Summer is all about dark colours for us.

Other trends, Shoulders of all kinds, embellished caplets, shoulder pads, pleated, puffed, accentuated balloon shoulders
all ala Balmain, thank you Christophe Decarnin.
