We’ve been seeing a lot of smoking references recently, with Kate Moss dragging on a fag in the Louis Vuitton AW11 show and now Adele on the cover of The Gentlewoman magazine…is it becoming cool again? I personally don’t smoke but I have to admit there is something sexy about a beautiful woman with a cigarette in her hand (in a picture anyway as I cant stand the smell!). Im not sure what to make of this possible trend so I found some nice photographs instead!

    I think it’s the full, lips, red lipstick, smoke iconoography that’s cool. When photographs first featured pictures of stars such as Marilyn and James Dean smoking it was the smoking as well as the star and the association that was cool. The above reference this but I think it’s been safely been beaten into us that the smoking itself isn’t the cool part, even if you’re in LA Suzie – bold ting.

    I agree Maz , it’s not the smoking that’s cool:- it’s the skinny, tattoo’d, smudged eyeliner, perfect nails. If Susan Boyle was papped suckin on a dart I doubt we would look at her and think, “hot damn girl I wanna be like you better get me some ciggies”. BTW Kate Moss totally looks her age in this pic….must be all the smoking she does.Totes Ridic

    I don’t think it’s a bad thing that Kate looks her age though. Makes a change to all the puffy faced cat features celebs we hav around.

    love you comment kath! and i agree, it definitely depends who is the smoker as to whether you think it looks ‘cool’…if it truly was cool i might be tempted to start but im not, therefore not cool! hah!
    ps. kate does look her age but still looks great! :/ minus the fag!

    I love the pictures. I think they look ‘cool’. They have something interresting to them :)
    But I believe people should smoke because they want to and not because they think it’s ‘cool’. Obviously its not good to smoke, because of health reasons bla bla bla. People that smoke because it’s ‘cool’ are seriously sad and clearly dont have a mind of their own.
    I’m not a smoker and I dont like the smell of it :) But I dont mind people smoking, it’s their life. Making a trend out of this and people following a trend like this is simply down to stupidity…

    It must be the whole crack-down making it more of a statement, and the images all look awesomely retro. It doesn’t get the same effect with a nobody though. Kate definitely makes it look ‘cool’, and Lily Allen’s sister on ch.4’s ‘From Riches to Rags’ always has one hanging out her mouth. I would still never smoke though!
