Black and white seems to make everything look perfect and beautiful. I’m definitely one for the traditional film photography so maybe thats why I love black and white so much. oh and how cool is the tattoo in the first image! I’ve never seen anything like it, brilliant idea.

Sissy Bounce, Sissy Nobby, Nick Knight and SHOWstudio present Quack

Show Studio Quack Sissy Bounce

Finishing off Nick Knight’s Fashion Body Film series is a 40 second focus on the hips featuring Quack, a dancer from New Orleans and the sissy bounce. I watched this initially and thought – another gratuitous bootie shake but there’s something distinctly mesmermesing about this film that compells you to watch over and over again, ultimately winning you over(I’m won, I am totally) and elements of the dance remind me of Josephine Baker clips I’ve been watching recently. Filmed witha tongue in cheek approach the clip nods to the scrappy home videos on which we usually see bootie bounce.

Once the bounce releases you from it’s mesmerising hold, you notice that Quack is actually dressed head to toe in designer gear namely Burberry, Mark Fast, Alexander MxQueen and John Galliano for Dior. Shorts cut to infinity just how we’d do them ourselves, we’ve said it before but it’s all about the under-but. Fun to see high-end fashion POP.

Gitte Lee in Italian Vogue shot by Tim Walker

December 16th, 2010 | M | Fashion, Photography | 1 Comment »

One of the joys of being stranded in Paris airport for ten hours(as we were last week due to snow) is that you don’t feel so guilty about spending an arm(only spent one the other one’s broken) and a leg on fashion magazines. Amongst our supermarket sweep was Italian Vogue.

This shoot featuring Gitte Lee was our favorite. Gitte has been modelling for the last 50 years and was recently featured in a Celine ad. Fashion is so focussed on youth that it was only a matter of time before the cameras turned to the older generation – it’s easy to look hot when you’re young but it gets a little harder as the years go by so kudos to Gitte she’s on fire! Older models should be celebrated and these women give us all something to aspire to. The young model in this shoot pales by comparison – Gitte looks both statuesque and elegant, her eyes and face full of character. The styling is fab, reminiscent of some of the Belle Epoque shapes I’ve been picking up on recently – I’m loving any kind of fur trim. Black and gold’s always a winner.

Whilst googling this I also stumbled upon a great blog called Advanced Style that celebrates “silver haired” street style.

Jodie Harsh’s Circus promo shot by Gabriel Gettman – FEAST!

December 15th, 2010 | M | Bitching and Junkfood News, Fashion, Videos | No Comments »

CIRCUS by Gabriel Gettman

WARNING – these stunts are carried out by trained professionals with a team of janitors on hand, please do not try at home (we know, we spent weeks getting treacle and cream out of the studio floor last time we shot with Gabriel)

A few months ago we we helped out on promo for Jodie Harsh’s night Circus. Directed by our talented friend Gabriel Gettman(who shot the video for our label TWO WEEKS) and styled by the lovely  Alexis Knox, the video features personalities from the East London club scene and her good self, Jodie.

It was shot in the photography studio beside ours. Gabriel recruited us to keep things moving, ensure everyone made their call times for hair, make-up, photo and film shoots – basically just bossing everyone around, something we’re pretty good at. Unfortunately I lost my voice(completely) but I still managed to get the job done.

Christopher James(weknowwhatyoudidlastnight.com), who features in the video also did a shoot on the day, the results of which you can see above and below.

Circus genuinely is one of THE most flambouyant/avant garde/outrageous/fun nights in London at the moment and the video is the perfect taster – yum, yummmm!

Christmas collaboration with illustration collective Crabwolf

December 13th, 2010 | M | Art, Bitching and Junkfood News | No Comments »

PropertyOf-DanielAlmeroth

We don’t know how it happened but somewhere between putting the carrot out for Rudolph and kissing under the mistletoe Christmas turned into some awful retail cliche. Sitting at the top of the cliche hierarchy is the sequin beret, it harks back to my previous life as a fashion buyer where every Christmas I’d have to place quantity on the aforementioned offender(don’t make me even mention those words again).

So now that we have our own labels and website we wanted to do something a little bit different, a bit more creative for Christmas. We’re surrounded by so many talented people in East London so it seems only fitting to collaborate with them on various projects.

We’ve always had a passion for illustration and we believe in creative freedom so we loosely briefed Crabwolf, made up of five up and coming illustrators, to create a Christmas illustration based around several of our brands. See the results for yourself on our homepage.

New Styles Hitting Urban Outfitters just in time for party season!

December 8th, 2010 | M | Bitching and Junkfood News, Fashion | 4 Comments »

We are having sooo much fun designing at the moment. Here are some styles hitting the store this week – we were at the launch in their Shoreditch store on Friday and so many chicks were wearing Bitching and Junkfood. We’ve even been invited in to do a mini brand conference – that’s gonna be all sorts of fun, we’ll have to behave ourselves(a tiny bit).

How cool is this misfits T-shirt???!!!!! There’s only one and it’s going to their Oxford Circus branch. We’ve done a whole selection of these cock rock styles including Nirvana, ACDC and Metallica. We struggled to let it go but I got a Jordan(as in from New Kids on the Block Jordan) one.

All of these are made from reclaimed fabric or styles – not a joss stick in sight!

Centre partings were all over the Spring Summer catwalks…and everywhere else, which I am loving! Its such a laid back and easy style that always makes you look effortless and cool, even if you’ve done nothing to your hair! Lucky for me too as I have a natural centre parting that wont let me do much else! haa. What do you think? Will you be rocking the centre parting?
