Polly Morgan Taxidermy

October 30th, 2010 | Holly | Art | No Comments »

Stumbled across this exhibition in London about a month back. There is something about using birds in this way that I really love and appreciate. I love the elegance but vulnerability of these birds and their positions. The effect is much better in the actual gallery but I hope these images will do!

Zombies ate my brain.

October 29th, 2010 | M | Fashion, Parties and Events | 3 Comments »

Well it kinda feels like that anyway, I’ve been number-crunching all week and those little chewy fkrs are well stuck in my teeth. I have nonetheless managed to take some time out for thoughts on Halloween.

I’m one of those people who cringes at the thought of themed parties, I don’t do dress-up but according to my friends that’s becuase every day is dress-up.  Despite the fact that I don’t do dress-up I’ve now become a bit obsessed – I was dreaming about crushed velvet quilted bomber jackets with gold crests on the back last night(not really sure if it fits halloween or is an AW11 idea). Myself and my housemate Ashley were researching ideas for a party we’re hitting Sunday along with the rest of our raggedy band of troubadours. It’s in our local pub The London Fields(right beside our studio) and the entire place is being turned into a haunted house  - the staff even have a prosthetics make-up artist coming so I guess that’s now upped the ante a bit and I might have to do dress up. The theme is Victorian Zombies but we’d like to play around with that a little bit – some of the ideas include glitter ball disco zombie or pregnant hillbilly zombie or myself and Kath could be Evil Twins since that’s what we seem to have become anyway.

Lots of inspiration from East London’s party scene(some of these are just taken on a standard Saturday night!) on weknowwhatyoudidlastnight.com Thankyou to the charming Christopher James for letting me swipe some pics.

I wore pretty much the same as the above last halloween except I had a roe deer animal skull embellished with black Swarovski crystals strapped to my shoulder – I kept it low key but night quite as low key as Shabnam below. Apparently club births are the new home births – I hope she had an epidural.

Despite the sarc we are acutally in LOVE with this video, the tune AND the styling’s immense – goddess head-dresses, those nails and the wings – we’ve  done feather wings for our SS11 collection(we acutally have nice one). We think wings are the new feathers, birds have been rockin them for agggges.

The girl is his missus and the tits are real. EPIC – and he directed it.

Joining me on the blog Holly…….

October 27th, 2010 | Holly | Bitching and Junkfood News, Fashion, Photography | 2 Comments »

But before her introduction mine……Holly interned with use before the Summer(it might have been during the Summer, I have no concept of timeframes at the moment). As with most designers I’m a bit of a control freak when it comes to aesthetics and direction – I don’t give up that control lightly. Holly was cool, we liked hanging out with her and she’s got that little bit of ditsy that I find really endearing. This chick’s seriously clued in, well talented and we’ve a similar eye, I guess we just bonded creatively so I decided to invite her back to blog on a more regular basis, she came over, we drank vodka, discussed some ideas and so it begins……..

So the beautiful girls at Bitching and Junkfood have asked me, Holly, to start blogging for them! Of course I couldn’t say no so here I am! Just a quicky, I’m a third year student at UCA Epsom studying Fashion Promotion and Imaging, grew up in the good ol’ welsh countryside, i suppose basically on a farm so no idea where fashion came into it but here I am. Now living in Brighton and find inspiring things all around me. I have a weakness for Street style (addicted to blogs and lookbook) photography, beauty and anything a little bit naughty and rough around the edges! Maybe I should say I like ugly beautiful things…does that make sense? Hope you enjoy the post and many more to come!

Old obsession chat roulette, new obsession cute overload.

October 24th, 2010 | M | Fashion | No Comments »

The Japanese are obsessed with all things cute – so many shops in Tokyo with cream, cakes, cuddly toys n gizmos. Been following this blog for a while, makes a nice break from hate n darkness. We got bored with chat roulette, it’s all about Cute Overload.

N the funny thing is that we went on an inspiration day a few weeks ago and I was leafing through some halloween patterns and we actually stumbled upon the pattern book to make all these costumes in Mac Cullough Wallace down the west end. I wonder if they make them in Staff size….my fave’s Princess Leigha.

V Magazine’s ode to Heavy Metal Parking Lot

PARKING LOT PONIES from V Magazine on Vimeo.

What’s not to love about this Video-clip. Very BITCHY. Great hair, great “fuck off” t-shirt – I want one.

And the original……a documentary on a bunch of smashed-up kids in in the car park of a Judas Priest concert back when it was ok to be totally smashed. Created by Jeff Krulik and John Heyn in 1986, the film became an underground cult classic and was reportedly a favorite on the Nirvana tourbus – I think Graham’s my favorite.

Discovered Menswear SS11 – Japan Fashion Week. Slick.

October 20th, 2010 | M | Fashion | 1 Comment »

Apologies the images are a bit pixellated but I still thought this was worth writing about and I haven’t got time to chase up high res, because I’m working on two new collaborations and trying to buy SS11.

Picture 135

We have a local pub friend, Lee, cool guy bit of a character, possibly the friendliest person we’ve met round LDN fields, just full of chat and lovely. He calls me Mirrri even thought he knows my name is Marion – this happens a lot. I’ve another rasta friend who calls me Mel pronounced Mewh – he also knows my name is Marion.

Enough about me back to Lee – He’s a skinhead and we love his style. It stands out amongst the death metal kids, neo-goths, fixie boys, English gents and Morrisey heads. I guess he might blend in more in Camden with what’s left of the rockabillies, mods, punks n rockers. When I saw this collection from Japan Fashion Week it reminded me of him. Possibly one of the coolest menswear collections I’ve seen all season.

Founded in 2001, the concept for the label was about “real clothes” with sleek lines and monochrome palettes. The label has obviously moved on from the sleek lines and monochrome palettes but real clothes scooped right out of the streets remains as a defining look for the label.

Obviously we have a really strong interest in any kind of vintage fashion and references to youth movements. This collection rocks – despite it being menswear I would wear most of it myself but then I’m not really one for florals and lace.

Just found him in ID, here you go…

As the name suggests skinheads were known for their haircuts and initially inspired by West Indian Rude Boys and Mods in what they wore. The look originated in the 1960’s and can still be seen on the streets London today. Signature style includes bomber jackets, rolled up jeans, braces, DM’s and white T-shirts. Since there’s been such a massive trend for DM’s it was really only a matter of time before this look started to filter through.

Picture 136

Agnes Dean pictured at Coachella in California this year…..interesting. The look kind of fits into the whole “haven’t a pot to piss in and live in a squat(but I have rich parents who’ll buy me a place one day)” look. Vice style had a shoot a few months back about squat life too.

Treyc Cohen on X FACTOR wearing KTZ quilted dress!

October 18th, 2010 | BITCHY PRESS | Bitching and Junkfood News, Fashion | No Comments »

Never thought X-Factor would make it to the blog, I might have gone word Nazi on it and banned it along with other words including Gaga, cuddle, shoes etc. This dress is getting a whole lotta love out there though so we gotta give it it’s due glory. Personally not a big X Factor fan – that’s Kath’s department but we got a load of e-mails about this dress from Kokon To Zai after the show. It’s a KILLER dress. Click through to shop the look with us.
