Mark Fast SS10
There’s been so much coverage on the lovely Mark Fast’s collection and his use of curvier models that I feel I have to comment.
When I first started this site I wanted to represent “all my fashion bitches” – everyone from skinny minnies to T@ts and As% girls. I went out of my way to source curvy-size vintage which isn’t an easy job – 6 and 8’s a plenty but larger sizes not always so easy to come by. It’s controversial but I have to drop size 14 to 16 for now.

Another boy papped wearing girls clothing, this time the Christopher Kane for Topshop T that everyone has gone wild(safari style) for. Boys in girls clothing – something we’ve had our eye on for a while and the inspiration behind our girlfriend jackets collection.

Human Hair Show-piece
I posted on Rachel’s AW aurora shoot last week and now that it’s made it’s public debut, I’m following-up with her SS10 collection which she showed at On/Off last week. I wrote her a little press release which sums up the collection. Since I wrote it I don’t feel so bad dropping it into my blog post – not something I would ususally do.
Inspired by strong contemporary role models, Rachel’s collection was designed to appeal to high fashion super-females. Despite strong military and sci-fi elements the collection is, designed to be wearable, durable, feminine and flattering.

Jersey Frills on angular jackets
Rachel’s applies her in-depth knowledge of traditional corsetry and tailoring to each garment. Her meticulous attention to form and structure create the impression of anatomical perfection regardless of the shape underneath.
Strong armoured lines executed in silk and jersey are feminised through a gentle colour palette of muted grey and nude tones. Precision-cut leather and reflective fringing create movement softening the pristine linearity of construction. The references to science fiction are off-set by playful kiss-lips animal prints and hand-cut jersey camouflage.

Sunday and I’m back to the dilemma of Wednesday: balancing sartorial demands of very different social engagements. While it’s great living in zone one because it does mean that I can drop home for a quick change with minimal hassle, I also like to pack in loads of things into my day and taking away the need to go home can allow me to cram one more event in.

It’s Saturday morning and I wake up at a friends house after going Buster Bennet’s Calling All Tribes party at The Macbeth last night. Despite the fact they work at a vintage store and have loads of very borrowable clothes in their wardrobe I get a skanky pleasure from putting last night’s clothes back on after the shower. It’s probably partly because I sleepover at other people’s houses so rarely that I still get that walk of shame buzz. This shot’s taken outside one of my new favourite places: Monmouth Coffee’s Roast House on Maltby Street. I haven’t touched alcohol or drugs for a decade now but I do have a pretty bad caffeine addiction. Luckily, living in SE1 I’ve got loads of great independent coffee shops around, the best being Monmouth. I’ve done a fair bit of blog papping (blapping) around Borough Market while fuelled on their coffee.

I rarely plan my outfits until just before I go out which probably explains why I arrive everywhere late. I still remember going on a date with someone a few years ago and being half impressed and half disgusted by the fact that they chose their work outfits for the whole week on the Sunday. I’d find that level of personal sartorial organisation both impossibly difficult and creatively repressing as it would preclude the creative expression which gives me such a buzz when I choose my outfit before each outing.

Every so often I feel inclined to blog about something I wore and I think the Gorilla suit is worthy of a post as it attracted a lot of attention and comments during Fashion Week. It was hot – literally, it’s made of 100% wool and weighs a ton but little trouper that I am I managed to wear it despite the balmy Fashion Week weather. Bare legs help you with the heet whilst teetering around with a large sheep on your back. You may have seen at girl in a Hotdog dress at the KTZ show – the gorilla suit is by the same designers Mr. + Mr.

A few months ago, myself and Manaboutworld had a back to back blog Bitch-off – Armageddon was one of the themes we bantered over, scavengers and caveman one of the areas we forecast. Jeremy Scott’s SS10 cave-man clubbed this nail on the head – nice to know we’re on track.

After this we poked them in the eyes to make them miserable
Starting off in our neck of the woods, long clothing was born in the markets of East London by two boys in pursuit of no-nonsense clothing that matched their tastes. Fed-up with over-complicated designs, their signature ‘Long’ shirt was born – simple yet effectively dramatic over sized t-shirts.

The Bitching and Junkfood blog promised to bring you the best and beautiful from the streets meets catwalks. So what’s our verdict? Uncommon but fabulous boys are paying homage to the best of women’s fashion by donning clothes and accessories more obviously tailored to the ‘fairer’ sex – and we’re not just talking about the trannies.

I’ve re-written this post maybe 4 times now. How can I write about something when I want to grab you by the lapels and shout it? The above shoot is a collaborative fashion-meets-art piece between London-based designer Rachel Freir and New York based photographer Aurora Crowley.
Rachel is another Hackney Wick designer and we’ve recently struck-up a friendship over a mutual appreciation of human hair and animal skulls. Drawn in by her effervescent creative energy, I found myself setting up camp in her studio last weekend as she prepped for Fashion Week.
