Mark Fast SS10

There’s been so much coverage on the lovely Mark Fast’s collection and his use of curvier models that I feel I have to comment.

When I first started this site I wanted to represent “all my fashion bitches” – everyone from skinny minnies to T@ts and As% girls. I went out of my way to source curvy-size vintage which isn’t an easy job – 6 and 8’s a plenty but larger sizes not always so easy to come by. It’s controversial but I have to drop size 14 to 16 for now.

Another boy papped wearing girls clothing, this time the Christopher Kane for Topshop T that everyone has gone wild(safari style) for. Boys in girls clothing – something we’ve had our eye on for a while and the inspiration behind our girlfriend jackets collection.

Rachel Freire SS10 showing at On/Off

Human Hair Show-piece

Human Hair Show-piece

I posted on Rachel’s AW aurora shoot last week and now that it’s made it’s public debut, I’m following-up with her SS10 collection which she showed at On/Off last week. I wrote her a little press release which sums up the collection. Since I wrote it I don’t feel so bad dropping it into my blog post – not something I would ususally do.

Inspired by strong contemporary role models, Rachel’s collection was designed to appeal to high fashion super-females. Despite strong military and sci-fi elements the collection is, designed to be wearable, durable, feminine and flattering.

Jersey Frills on angular jackets

Rachel’s applies her in-depth knowledge of traditional corsetry and tailoring to each garment. Her meticulous attention to form and structure create the impression of anatomical perfection regardless of the shape underneath.

Strong armoured lines executed in silk and jersey are feminised through a gentle colour palette of muted grey and nude tones. Precision-cut leather and reflective fringing create movement softening the pristine linearity of construction. The references to science fiction are off-set by playful kiss-lips animal prints and hand-cut jersey camouflage.

The Gorilla suit

Every so often I feel inclined to blog about something I wore and I think the Gorilla suit is worthy of a post as it attracted a lot of attention and comments during Fashion Week. It was hot – literally, it’s made of 100% wool and weighs a ton but little trouper that I am I managed to wear it despite the balmy Fashion Week weather. Bare legs help you with the heet whilst teetering around with a large sheep on your back. You may have seen at girl in a Hotdog dress at the KTZ show – the gorilla suit is by the same designers Mr. + Mr.

Jeremy Scott Show SS10 – Yabadabadoo

A few months ago, myself and Manaboutworld had a back to back blog Bitch-off – Armageddon was one of the themes we bantered over, scavengers and caveman one of the areas we forecast. Jeremy Scott’s SS10 cave-man clubbed this nail on the head – nice to know we’re on track.

Bitchy luv you LONG time….

After this we poked them in the eyes to make them miserable

Starting off in our neck of the woods, long clothing was born in the markets of East London by two boys in pursuit of no-nonsense clothing that matched their tastes. Fed-up with over-complicated designs, their signature ‘Long’ shirt was born – simple yet effectively dramatic over sized t-shirts.

Introducing our capsule menswear range just in time for Fashion Week..

The Bitching and Junkfood blog promised to bring you the best and beautiful from the streets meets catwalks. So what’s our verdict? Uncommon but fabulous boys are paying homage to the best of women’s fashion by donning clothes and accessories more obviously tailored to the ‘fairer’ sex – and we’re not just talking about the trannies.

Rachel Freire SS10

rachelfreire2

I’ve re-written this post maybe 4 times now. How can I write about something when I want to grab  you by the lapels and shout it? The above shoot is a collaborative fashion-meets-art piece between London-based designer Rachel Freir and New York based photographer Aurora Crowley

Rachel is another Hackney Wick designer and we’ve recently struck-up a friendship over a mutual appreciation of human hair and animal skulls. Drawn in by her effervescent creative energy, I found myself setting up camp in her studio last weekend as she prepped for Fashion Week.

Marc Jacobs SS10 – all things to all people?

Undulating ruffled shoulders

Undulating ruffled shoulders

Marc Jacobs is tired of seeing girls in black and studs. What about black and frills then? According to the man himself this collection has been designed to encourage individuality. I surprised myself. Not usually a fan of Marc Jacobs, there were several pieces that I would open my wardrobe doors and roll out the black carpet for.

CHRISTOPHER KANE FOR TOPSHOP

September 14th, 2009 | M | Fashion | 5 Comments »

Winter safari anyone? All Summer I’ve been posting about seasonal fabric association fall-out. The weather’s turning seasons on their heads it’s only right that fashion follows suit.

Oversized safari prints are fast becoming iconic images for Christopher Kane. Spring saw a gawping gorilla become the most identifiable image for the designer’s collection. Moving into AW and not a snow leopard in site. Kane keeps it “Jungle” another example of a designer working with “screw the seasons” style. A big gnarly crocodile graces the front cover of both the lookbook and an overized T-shirt, becoming Kane’s signature for Topshop AW10.

Me sitting on a floor in my fave polka-dot top

Warehouse floor, Hackney Wick, Polka Dot Top.

I always associated Polka-dots with rock-a-billy, full skirts and coiffed hair, none of which looks I am particularly comfortable with. They don’t bode well with my eclectic shizo aesthetic. However I bought the above Topshop crop-top a few months back and it had wangled its way into my wardrobe and I wear it layered up with all sorts of prints. I’m really into layering prints at the moment. That or all black. Yup schizo.

WAR MAGAZINE PARTY

September 10th, 2009 | M | Parties and Events | No Comments »

War, what is it good for – catwalk shows, champagne, camouflage wristbands and eye candy. Great let’s nuke them all!

Last night’s WAR Magazine party provided hot looks in dark corners. Bumped into the ubiquitous Daniel Lismore and his band of troubadours. Last week I sat in a Catholic church, on Soho square. It was nice(yep nice, boring word but churches aren’t really rock n roll) and even though I’m not religious it felt strangely peaceful, not something I can say about any aspect of my life at the moment. I looked at the statues and was inspired by the draping of porcelain fabric. I went home and re-created a jersey version for myself. I’m feeling for monastic style at the moment and Daniel hit the nail on the rust rosary-bead wrapped head. All that was missing was an altar boy swinging an incense burner.

Questions needing answers…..who is that?

September 9th, 2009 | M | Fashion | 3 Comments »

A thing of beauty if a boy forever....

Andre and Manaboutworld

A question asked by most people across East London over the last couple of weeks. A mystical creature of 6′1″ in heels and a gamine size 8, Andre J. stepped off the plane on August 18th and hit the party circuit over the bank holiday weekend. Visiting from YC Andre’s, doe eyes and rose-bude red framed smiled command a “who is that?” reaction everywhere he goes . Possibly the prettiest bearded boy you ever did see, Andre also has a fine pair of catwalk stomping pins which made Caroline Murphy’s look distinctly average on the cover of French Vogue.
