Reebok and Basquiat

Ltd Edition Reebok Basuiat
As soon as I moved to Hackney Wick I noticed a uniform. We called it Derelicte, including manchettes, fur and numerous layers of knitted and draped fabric. Warehouses are freezing in winter and this is a practicality rather than a style thing. It made fellow wickers easily identifylable – it was nice exchanging coccooned nods on the frosty sparkled roads. We soon realised that there a lot of us had footwear in common too.
Black Reebok classics, a must for climbing into lofts and hanging from rafters, power tools in hand. Mine are now destroyed – covered in paint – but I still love them and I can’t chuck them. Reebok have released a ltd edition Basquiat trainer available at Colette in Paris – paint splattering much more neo-expressionist than my random unintended blobs. Basquiat is one of my favorite artists – I love the raw energetic freedom with which he puts paint to canvas, can to wall and apart from anything else he’s seriously HOT,sexily aloof, has a beautiful voice and saying his name is ever so slightly pleasurable. Go on say it out loud – “Jean Michele Basquiat”.
