Another month, another little Monster… the ante clearly stepped up from the last night and not one cheesey Jacko outfit in sight. Never a night for the dull or sheepish, the colour limitations failed to stunt the extravagance of Dublins gorgeous gremlins. As always the crowd were fun, fancy free(actually no you were there right?) and friendly – where else in Dublin could you loose a wallet and have it handed in at the end of the night? I’ve always had a bit of an obsession with trainers. It used to be soo much easier to get cool limited edition Nike – I had a bit of a ‘95 obsession a few years back. My faves were silver ones with flouro orange highlights – I wish I’d bought 10 paris. There’s a fine scally line when it comes to trainers than I like to dance upon, stella in hand – unfortunately Nike pushed the 95’s to the far end of the wrong side of the scally line so me and 95’s went our separate ways.

A few notes on Visual Merchandising for anybody thinking of doing any kind of vintage markets. Just because it’s vintage it doesn’t mean that you should throw your VM guidelines out the window. You still need to build colour stories and sit like product together to create a synergy between your garments.

Laura K MacDonald graduating from Glasgow school of Art and chose quintessential “Britishness” as the theme upon which to base her collection. She drew on fond memories of seafronts and promenades for the motifs in her collection. The past 5 years have seen a shift in global travel trends as people become more aware of their carbon footprint as well as wallet size. Seaside towns have once again becoming a popular destination for summer vacations so I feel the inspiration for this collection was particularly topical.
