Sweltering peltering
June 30th, 2009 | M | Fashion | No Comments »So the highstreet’s telling us it’s AW but we’ve just hit SS last week and don’t think you can fob us off by calling it transitional. It’s not going to anywhere near to AW until the end of Sept.
Having spent the last 5 years working as a buyer I’ve never actually known which season it is as I’ve been wearing SS, watching AW sales and forecasting the following SS. So it’s still summer right?
I think we attach far to many seasonal associations to materials anyway. There are fabrications I just enjoy wearing, Alpacca, Angorra and yes fur, fur, fur. I didn’t personally skin the animal so that makes it ok and I’ve been pawed by so many vegetarians I’m surprised there’s any fur left.
I look forward to winter every year because I can wear my fur coats and, rather disappointingly, I’ve never been doused in paint carrie style – although I’m quite liking blood at the moment and I think it’s coming through as a strong trend(more on that for my first “In the closet feature..”
I’ve spotted these three lovelies in the last week wearing summer fur and it just works. It doesn’t need to be a floor length mink, a shrug or a touch of fur really texturises any outfit and it also means you get strangers stroking your shoulders if you’re into that kind of thing – who ever said Londoner’s were standoffish was a big liar . Better that a Ralph Lauren cotton knit thrown over the shoulders – Carlton style.
I particularly like the sheepskin/chain necklace combination and would like to see this layered-up on denim with multiple chains. I also like the mad-max aesthetic of rough fur pelts cascading down finely tailored shoulders – fur shoulders big on trend for AW – Mad max report also bubbling in my brain.
